  • Product Introduction

GL-GPJ09-5606 Heat Shrink Dome Closure is used in aerial, wall-mounting, and underground applications for the straight-through and branching splice of the fiber cable. Dome splicing closures are excellent protection of fiber optic joints from outdoor environments such as UV, water, and weather, with leak-proof sealing and IP68 protection.

The closure has 7 entrance ports on the end (1 round port and 6 oval ports). The shell of the product is made from PP+GF material. The shell and the base are sealed by pressing the silicone rubber with the allocated clamp. The entry ports are sealed by heat-shrinkable tubes. The closures can be opened again after being sealed and reused without changing the sealing material.

How to install a Heat Shrink Dome Closure in a manhole?

Fiber optic cables are becoming increasing popular for telecommunication and networking purpose because of their superior performance in comparation to traditional copper wires. However, to ensure optimal signal transmission, it is essential to protect and manage the fiber cables, which is where fiber splice closures come in. In this article, we will discuss how to install a dome type fiber splice closure in a manhole.

Step 1: Prepare the work area

Before you start working, ensure that the manhole is clean and free of debris. The closure should be installed on a flat surface, so make sure the area is level. Ensure that there is sufficient lighting, ventilation and safety equipment such as gloves and safety glasses.

Step 2: Unpack the fiber splice closure kit

The dome type fiber splice closure kit typically contains the following components:

Dome type closure body

Splice tray

Cable gland (for cable entry if mechanical base)

Cable tie

Heat shrink tubes

Installation manual

Make sure all the components are present and in good condition before proceeding.

Step 3: Prepare the fiber cables and splice, organize the fibers

Strip off the outer jacket for the fiber cables and cut the strength members to the required length. Ensure that the fiber cables are clean and free of any debris or sharp edges. After splicing, organize the fibers and place them in the slots, ensure that there is no excess slack and that the fibers are not tangled.

Step 4: Seal the closure and test the fiber cables using an OTDR or other suitable testing equipment to ensure that they are properly spliced and working correctly.

In conclusion, installing a dome type fiber splice closure in a manhole requires careful preparation and attention to detail. Following the steps outlined above will help ensure a successful installation, protecting and managing fiber optic cables for optimal performance.
